During the whole
novel V never shows his face, hidden
behind the mask of Guy Fawkes he plays a role on the revolution he programmed,
the destroyer, is only later on that we learn about his past. In the other hand Eve starts as an unpolluted young woman about
to be corrupted and little by little grows and adopts the mask as her role, as
the replacement of V and at the same time as a completely new and opposite
character, the constructor, that need to take over as soon as V job is done, because
V knew that if one cleans something is inevitable to get dirty in the process
and in the end you become part of the filth that needs to be cleansed. In this regard V was waiting for the right man
to do so; the last faithful lover of lady justice. Finch was the only one that
deserved to kill him, because he was robbed of his loved one and because he was
seeking nor gain nor vengeance, only justice.
This novel reminded me of a manga called Akumetsu
that means literally destroyer of Evil, the story starts in a similar way, a
masked man saves a young woman that was about to sell herself. But that is all;
he starts a 1 man kill system where he needs to die along with his target,
fortunately enough he can be cloned as many times as needed. This was a pretty popular series back in 2006
but here is my question. Why are these kinds of plots so popular and appealing to
the public? Is the temptation of hiding behind a mask and throwing everything
away just too big for one to resist? V
is the destructive face of the anarchy, the charming terrorist and the lovely insane
all in one, is inevitable to feel attracted and represented by his reasoning,
but why? Are we all potential terrorists
that seek the blood of our tyrant, and the destruction of the parliament? Hopefully no, but we do have been victims of
the state and unfair laws which have made us prompt not to trust and be wary if
not completely on guard against any move the government does.
